Also known as the cash-rich tournament, the Indian T20 League keeps on getting better with the prominent personalities getting involved in buying stakes of a team.

Money has always been a talking point of the IPL. The tournament is in the limelight due to the involvement of many Bollywood stars, top-tier business people, and many other dignitaries. Apart from the attention that follows them in competition, they also allow the bucks to flow in. Apart from the awards to the top 4, individual awards like emerging player, orange cap winner, purple cap winner, fair-play award, etc., are given in the league.

The Purple Cap is awarded to the bowler with the most dismissals at the end of the IPL season. The cap passes from one bowler to another as the tournament progresses. Finally, it settles with the leading wicket-taker at the end of the game. Similarly, Orange Cap is awarded to the batter who accumulates the most runs by the end of IPL. The Purple Cap was won by Royal Challengers Banglore's pacer Harshal Patel in 2021 as he picked up 32 wickets from 15 matches, whereas the Orange cap was won by Chennai Super Kings' opener Ruturaj Gaikwad.

So far, however, both pacers and the seamers have made full use of the conditions on offer and have had a more or less equal impact on the wicket-takers chart. Yuzvendra Chahal has led the charts with 24 wickets in 13 innings with an economy of 7.76. He is followed by Wanindu Hasaranga, having 23 wickets in 13 innings with an economy of 7.48. For Orange Cap, the strongest contender is Jos Buttler with 627 runs in 13 innings, followed by KL Rahul with 537 runs.

For the first time in 15 seasons, the IPL Purple Cap and Orange Cap 2022 will have a title sponsor in the form of Saudi Aramco. The IPL Orange Cap and Purple Cap winners will earn INR 15 lakh each.

What will be on the cards for the Orange and Purple Cap Holder?

Talking about the top 2 contenders of each cap, whether they will be retained or will be found in auctions next year. Firstly comes possible Orange cap winners in either Jos Buttler or KL Rahul. Jos Buttler has been with Rajasthan Royals since 2018 and was one of the retained players, and he has proved his worth in every game. Thus, we must find him an intact opening for Rajasthan Royals next year. On the other hand, KL Rahul became the newly found franchise Lucknow Super Giants' captain. The team has performed exceptionally well under his captaincy and has been the most consistent batter of this format. So, there is no doubt that he will be in Lucknow next year.

In the race of Purple cap holder, Rajasthan Royals Yuzvendra Chahal is ahead of Royal Challengers Bangalore Wanindu Hasaranga by one wicket. Chahal is likely to maintain the lead if RCB fails to qualify for playoffs. Yuzvendra Chahal and Wanindu Hasaranga have been phenomenal with the ball this season for their respective franchises, fitting well with where the team needs them. Hence are likely to maintain their respective positions with the same franchise.
