As much as this power-hitting excites the audience and fellow players in the dugout, it can often leave batters vulnerable to silly dismissals. Despite the risk involved in power-hitting, certain players have successfully maintained great batting averages while keeping their natural aggressive play intact. Here are the top five players with the highest batting averages in the ongoing season.

    Shimron Hetmyer

He was an explosive batter from Guyana who rose to fame with his impressive captaincy that led West Indies to their first U-19 World cup title. Too talented to go unnoticed, the player bagged the first IPL contract in 2019 from Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, the world witnessed his performance and power-hitting capabilities in 2020 when he played for Delhi Capitals. His powerful shots have helped Rajasthan sail tricky overs easily. This season, he’s representing Rajasthan Royals and has gathered 291 runs at an average of 72.75 after playing 11 matches. This is the best batting average in his IPL career.

    Dinesh Karthik

One of the most experienced wicket-keeper batters is in the scheme of things. Having led Kolkata Knight Riders to playoffs in 2018, the side didn’t retain him and was bought by RCB. He has been so exceptional with his bat that, nearing 37 in age, he has forced Indian selectors to think about him yet again. In the 14 matches, he scored 287 runs with an average of 57.40. Coming to bat down the order, he has kept his nerves calm in many crucial matches and led the team to the victory line.

    David Miller

After playing for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), the player played for Rajasthan Royals in 2020 and 2021 and now represents Gujarat Titans. Coming to bat for the franchise at the top-order, he has contributed 381 runs in 14 matches at an average of 53.38 runs. He made the highest score of 94 to remain not out in the game. He has played crucial partnerships with skipper Hardik Pandya and Rahul Tewatia at many vital junctures of the matches to help his team win.

    David Warner

After commencing his IPL journey with the Delhi franchise in 2009, with a bag full of experience, he led Sunrisers Hyderabad for a few years until the franchise parted ways with the opener. The Australian opener was bagged by Delhi back in this auction. The talented opener has smashed 427 runs in 11 matches at an average of 53.38 runs, his highest score being 92 not out. IPL legend, having won the Orange cap three times, is the best overseas batter in the tournament's history. He continues to be the most significant contributor to his franchise in IPL.

    Jos Buttler

Though the leading run-scorer in the fifteenth edition of IPL, he stands fifth in the list of batters with the best average. The batter has accumulated 629 runs in 14 matches at a terrific average of 48.38. He has three centuries and three half-centuries in this season. Besides this, he leads the charts for most boundaries and maximums in this season, playing at a strike rate of 146.96. He has been one of the hardest hitters that the game has seen this season.
