So here is the list of flop squads from IPL 2022

Openers: Rohit Sharma (MI) and Kane Williamson (SRH)

The two modern-day great cricketers, Rohit Sharma and Kane Williamson had a torrid campaign in IPL 2022. Both the leading skippers failed to contribute to their team. While Mumbai Indians won only four matches, the skipper could gather just 268 runs averaging 19.14, which is his lowest IPL career.

Kane Williamson made a comeback after the injury failed to deliver, having fetched 216 runs at an average of 19.64 and strike rate of 93.51. Both of these figures are the lowest in his IPL career. Hence the duo failed to deliver as openers this season, exposing their middle-order early.

Middle Order: Mayank Agarwal (PBKS), Vijay Shankar (GT), Ravindra Jadeja (CSK)

Punjab Kings skipper Mayank Agarwal used to open for the franchise. However, looking to give Jonny Bairstow a comfortable position to bat on, he demoted himself to the middle order. This gesture was lauded by many. However, his performance got affected considerably, as he averaged 16 with a strike rate of 122 to score 196 in the complete season.

Vijay Shankar was bagged by Gujarat Titans and was played in the middle order in 4 matches, where he failed to deliver terribly. In four games, he averaged 4.75, scoring mere 19 runs, owing to which he was dropped from playing XI.

Ravindra Jadeja, too, had a challenging time. Right from being throned as captain, his performance went downhill. He could score 116 runs and take five wickets, showing a significant decline in all-rounders performance. He missed the last four league stage matches due to injury and gave up captaincy after CSK’s two wins in 8 games.

    Wicketkeeper batter: Sheldon Jackson (KKR)

This season, the wicket-keeper batter for Kolkata Knight Riders didn’t have a decent outing. He got five matches to play in which he could score just 23 runs, averaging 5.75. He had a poor strike rate of 88.46. Considering his struggles on-field with bat and keeping, he was dropped from Playing XI to be replaced by Sam Billings.

Lower Order All-rounders: Marcus Stoinis (LSG), Daryl Mitchell (RR), Shardul Thakur (DC)

Lucknow Super Giants all-rounder Marcus Stoinis was bought with huge expectations of him filling the role of finisher and all-rounder. However, he failed to deliver in the times of need for the team. He just scored 156 runs in 11 matches averaging at 19.50. With the ball, he also scalped just four wickets in 5 innings, 3 of which came in a single game against KKR and thus failed to leave his mark as an all-rounder.

Rajasthan Royals star all-rounder Daryl Mitchell got just two matches to play and warmed the bench for the remainder. In the two games, he carried an average of 16.50 and failed to take even a single wicket. With the ball, he had an economy of 13.50. The figure itself speaks of the reason for benching him against other quality players.

Coming from defending champions and a vital member of the Indian team, Shardul Thakur had a disappointing time with ball and bat. He took 15 wickets in 14 matches, 6 of which came in the last two games at a high economy of 9.78. He has the worst figures among bowlers who bowled a minimum of 5 overs. With the bat as well, he scored just 120 runs in 10 innings with an average of 15.

Bowlers: Mohammed Siraj (RCB), Varun Chakravarthy (KKR)

Varun Chakravarthy was a big let-down among the retained players for Kolkata Knight Riders. The mystery spinner, who had outperformed other bowlers in the last two seasons, picked just six wickets, having played 11 matches at a high bowling average of 55.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s retained player Mohammed Siraj failed to deliver this season. The RCB seamer snared just nine wickets in 14 matches at a poor economy of 9.86 and was eventually dropped for RCB’s last must-win league game. He got included in the eliminator match in which he could again take just one wicket on conceding 41 runs.
