All the aggressive nature that Englishmen were prepared to display took the backstage against India. England's complete batting line-up kneeled in front of Jasprit Bumrah. Indian pace attack led by Bumrah sent the entire England team back to the pavilion in 25.2 overs at just 110. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan didn't even drop a sweat and won the game for India by ten wickets. This was the first 10-wicket loss for England at home in an ODI.

Rohit Sharma won the influential toss for India, opting to bowl first. Justifying the skipper's decision, Indian seamers breathed fire in the first half of the game to use the conditions as they reduced England to 26/5 in just 7.5 overs. Jasprit Bumrah scalped six wickets to return with his best bowling figures of 6/19 in ODIs. The bowler destroyed the top-order by dismissing Jason Roy (0), Jonny Bairstow (7), and Joe Root (0). He was well supported by Mohammed Shami, who took three wickets, conceding 31 runs to reach a milestone of 150 ODI wickets. They bundled out the home side for just 110 runs.

In response, the emphatic opening pair of India, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan took to the crease and displayed a dominant performance with the bat. After starting the inning cautiously, the duo mocked the run chase on this green pitch. While Shikhar Dhawan played the supporting role and rotated the strikes, Rohit Sharma played an unstoppable game attacking English bowlers. They both stitched the 18th 100-run stand in ODIs as Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan remained unbeaten at 76 and 31 runs at the end of the 19th.

"Very tough day to take, but we've got to dust ourselves down quickly," said Jos Buttler.

With the first ODI being one-sided, India took the lead of 1-0 in a three-match series. England will look to return stronger in games to follow as the venue for the second ODI move to iconic Lord's ground on 14th July 2022. England will look to forget this match and bounce back stronger, and India will look to continue their game.
