    Jasprit Bumrah is a well-known Indian International cricketer, One of the best fast bowlers of the generation and is also known as Yorker King. He played for Gujrat in domestic cricket and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. He started playing at the age of 14 and today has made a name for himself.

    He made his first-class debut for Gujrat playing against Vidarbha at Nagpur on October 27, 2013; His List A debut for India U23 against Pakistan U23 on August 18, 2013. He made his T20 debut at Ahmedabad for Gujarat against Maharashtra on March 17, 2013.

    Jasprit Bumrah is a renowned Indian International cricketer, also known as the Yorker King is one of the best pace bowlers of current generation in all formats of the game. He is also the Vice-Captain of Indian Cricket squad. He made his way into the Indian team while playing for Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League. For the Indian side that had been struggling a while with lack of bowlers in death overs, Bumrah came as an answer with his inch-perfect yorkers.

    Jasprit Bumrah’s Early Life

    Jasprit Bumrah was born to the late Jasbir Singh in a Sikh Punjabi family in Ahmedabad, Gujrat. His father passed away when he was only 5 years old, he was raised by his mother, Daljit Bumrah, a school principal in Ahmedabad. He expressed his desire to become a bowler to his mother at the age of 14, she was hesitant initially but soon allowed him to pursue his dream. Eventually, he got selected by the Gujrat Cricket association for a summer camp.

    Jasprit Bumrah was born on 6th December 1993 to Jasbir Singh(father) & Daljit Bumrah(Mother); a Sikh Punjabi family settled in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. As his father passed away when he was just 5 years old, he was raised by his mother who served as a school principal in Ahmedabad. At a young age of 14, his desire to become a bowler was met with reluctance initially but was supported by his mother eventually. He was picked early on by Gujarat and played for Gujarat U19 team in 2012.

    Jaspreet Bumrah made his international debut in 2016 at the age of 22, he played his maiden ODI match against Australia in Sydney on January 23, 2016. Only three days later, he made his T20I debut against Australia in Adelaide on January 26, 2016. He made his Test cricket debut against South Africa in Cape Town on January 5, 2018.

    He is known for troubling many batsmen with his unorthodox slinky action; In his ODI career spanning 70 matches, he has bowled at least 617 overs taking 113 wickets with an economy rate of 4.65. In Test cricket, he has played 27 matches taking 113 wickets with an economy rate of 2.65. In International twenty20 cricket he has played 55 matches, taking 66 wickets with an economy rate of 6.52.

    Jasprit Bumrah’s International Debut was in 2016 playing his maiden ODI innings against Australia in Sydney on January 23, 2016. And a mere 3 days later on January 26, 2016 he did his T20 debut against Australia.  In August 2016 playing playing against West Indies, he became the bowler to claim most wickets (28) in T20 Internationals in one calendar year surpassing the record of Dirk Nannes. Bumrah’s Test debut was a couple of years later during January 2018 in Cape Town against South Africa. On the Boxing Day Test of India Tour of Australia 2018, Bumrah gave an astounding career-best performance of 6 wickets for 33 runs. He became the first Asian bowler to take five-wicket hauls in Australia, England and South Africa in the same calendar year.

    With a fast pace and a unique slinky bowling action he often proves a menace for batsmen. Till date with 70 ODIs played, he has taken 113 wickets with an economy rate of 4.65. His Test Cricket Economy rate is a miserly 2.65 and in a span of 27 matches he’s been able to take 113 wickets. In 55 T20Is played in his career he has taken 66 wickets at an average run rate of 6.52.

    Jasprit Bumrah’s IPL Career

     

    Jasprit Bumrah began his Indian Premier League journey in 2013 after being bought by Mumbai Indians. He is one of the few players in IPL who stayed with one team for more than 8 years. He made his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 4, 2013, he dismissed Virat Kohli in his first over. Bumrah is the sixth player to feature in 100 matches for Mumbai Indians. He learned Yorkers from Lashit Malinga, his Mumbai Indians teammate; He played a key part in Mumbai Indians five IPL tournament wins. He is now a vital bowler for not just the Mumbai Indians but the Indian National team too.

    His best IPL performance was in 2020 when he took 27 wickets with a bowling average just shy of 15. Ahead of the current iteration, he has played 106 matches, taking 130 wickets with a bowling average of 23.1 and an economy rate of 7.42.

    It has been confirmed that the star player has been retained by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022 auction at a cost of INR12 crore.

    Bumrah’s Indian Premier League Journey started in 2013 when at 19 years of age he was acquired by Mumbai Indians and it makes him one of those rare players in IPL to be retained by a single side for 9 years in a row; including his latest retention by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022 auction at a whopping INR 12 crores. He’s been a key player in five IPL tournament victories for Mumbai Indians.

     He made his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore, turning heads by his performance of three wickets for 32 runs including dismissal of Virat Kohli in his first over. He is the 6th player to play in 100 matches for Mumbai Indians. In his stint for Mumbai Indians, he learnt his yorkers under Lasith Malinga.
