Suryakumar Yadav is an Indian International cricket player. He plays for the Indian cricket team in ODI and T20I formats. He represents Mumbai in domestic cricket and has played for Mumbai Indians.
Suryakumar Yadav’s Early Life
Suryakumar Yadav was born to Ashok Kumar Yadav on September 14, 1990, in Mumbai. His father, originally from Ghazipur, moved to Mumbai for his job as an electrical engineer for Bhaba Atomic Research Centre. He started playing cricket in the streets of Mumbai. His father enrolled him at a cricket camp in the Barc colony in Anushakti Nagar at the age of 10.
Suryakumar Yadav’s International Career
He had a rough start in his career as it took him 10 years to make it to the national team after his debut. He made his international debut in a T20I against England on March 14, 2021, at Narendra Modi Stadium. He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka at R.Premadasa Stadium on July 18, 2021.
As of February 2022, he has scored 267 runs over an ODI career spanning 7 matches with an average of 53.4 and a strike rate of 103.09. He has played a total of 12 matches in his T20I career scoring 278 runs with an average of 39.71 and a strike rate of 158.86.

Suryakumar Yadav’s IPL Career
He was acquired by Mumbai Indians in 2011 and remained with them until 2013 season of the Indian Premier League. He made his IPL debut against Pune Warriors on April 6, 2012. He had a rough start playing just one match in the season and getting dismissed without scoring. He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2014 IPL season.
He caught the eye of the cricket world with his batting skills after scoring a match-winning 46 runs off 20 balls with five sixes for Kolkata Knight Riders against Mumbai Indians on April 8, 2015. He was made the Vice-Captain for Kolkata Knight Riders after his match-winning performance of 46 off 20 balls in the IPL 8 opener against Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens.
He went on to play for Kolkata Knight Riders as a vice-captain until 2017 after which he was bought by Mumbai Indians during the 2018 auctions at a cost of INR3.2 crores, returning to the team with which he did his IPL debut.
Ahead of the 2022 iteration, he has scored 2341 runs with an average of 28.9 with a strike rate of 135.71
It has been confirmed that Suryakumar Yadav has been retained by Mumbai Indians during the 2022 auction at a cost of INR8 crores.
