    Shimron Hetmyer is an international Guyanese cricketer who represents Guyana in domestic and West Indies in international cricket. He will play for Rajasthan Royals in the 2022 IPL.

    Shimron Hetmyer’s Early Life

    Shimron Hetmyer was born on December 26, 1996, in Guyana to Gladston Hetmyer, a sugar estate worker. He grew up with his family in a canefield settlement in East Canje. He was introduced to cricket by his brother Seon Hetmyer as he started accompanying his brother to the Young Warriors Club ground at the age of six.

    Shimron started playing school level cricket at the age of nine for the Rose Hall Estate Primary School and Young Warriors Cricket Club, He showed his potential when he scored a century in a domestic match.

    Shimron Hetmyer’s International Career

    Shimron Hetmyer made his international debut in a Test match against Pakistan on April 21, 2017. He made his ODI and T20I debuts against the West Indies on December 20, 2017, and January 1, 2018, respectively.

    The left-handed batsman scored his first century against the United Arab Emirates on March 6, 2018. His team won the match and he was named man of the match. Hetmyer holds the record for scoring the fastest century against England by a West Indies batsman, scoring a century off just 82 balls.

    He was a part of the West Indies squad during the 2019 Cricket World Cup and the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

    As of the beginning of 2022, he has played 16 Test matches, scoring over 830 runs with an average of almost 28 and a strike rate of 73.6. In ODI cricket, he has played 47 matches, scoring 1,440+ runs with an average a little higher than 35 and a run rate of 106.4. In his career spanning 42 T20I matches, he has scored 500+ runs with an average of 151.2.

    Shimron Hetmyer’s IPL Career

    Shimron Hetmyer began his IPL career with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2019 IPL. He made his debut against Chennai Super Kings but was dismissed by a run out before he got the opportunity to score any runs. He only got to play five matches in that season and scored just 90 runs. His best performance was against Sunrisers Hyderabad where he scored a half-century and was named man of the match.

    He was acquired by Delhi Capitals during the 2020 IPL auction and played with them for two years. However, he was not able to shine and his performances were sub-par. Hetmyer can turn the game on its head in no time with his big hits when provided with the right opportunities, but things didn't work out in the capital.

    Ahead of the 2022 IPL season he has played 31 matches, scoring 517 runs with an average run rate just shy of 26 and a strike rate of 151.2.

    It has been confirmed that for the 2022 IPL season, he has been bought by Rajasthan Royals for a whopping INR8.5 crore after a fierce bidding war with Delhi Capitals.

    Shimron Hetmyer is married to Nirvani Umrao. The couple got engaged on Christmas Day in 2019 and married soon afterwards. He currently lives with his family in Georgetown, Guyana.
