    Shardul Thakur's Early life

    Thakur was born on 16 October 1991 and hails from the small town of Palgarh in Maharashtra, Thakur faced the oft-mentioned and rarely addressed the problem of having to travel almost a hundred kilometres to Mumbai to pursue his cricketing dreams. 

    From a stereotypical backwater boy lugging his cricket kit to practise to become the most sought-after pace bowler in Mumbai, Thakur's journey has been one of perseverance and hard work.

    Shardul Thakur's International Career

    In August 2017, he was called up to India's limited overs squad for the series against Sri Lanka. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Sri Lanka on 31 August 2017.

    In October 2018, he made his test match debut against West Indies, becoming the 294th player to represent the Indian team in Tests.

    In September 2021, Thakur was named as one of three reserve players in India's squad for the T20 World Cup to be held in October. On 13 October, Thakur replaced Axar Patel in India's main squad for the tournament. He was called up to the squad for two matches of the tournament.

    In the second test match against South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium in January 2022, Shardul Thakur scored his first five-wicket haul in a Test match and also scored the best bowling figures by an Indian bowler against South Africa.

    Shardul Thakur's IPL career

    Thakur was signed by Kings XI Punjab in the 2014 IPL player auction ahead of the 2015 Indian Premier League season and made his debut against Delhi Daredevils. During the tenth season of the IPL, he was acquired by Rising Pune Supergiants and then bought by Chennai Super Kings in January 2018.

    In 2019, Chennai reached the finals of the IPL. Thakur picked up two wickets but was run out with the last ball of the match when two runs were required for victory.

    In 2021, he was the leading wicket-taker for his team Chennai Super Kings with 21 wickets in the season.

    In February 2022, he was bought by Delhi Capitals in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League tournament.
