    Glenn Maxwell has been a stalwart of Australia's batting order for more than a decade and has become one of the most destructive batsmen in the world. He currently plays ODI and Twenty20 cricket for Australia. He has also played Test cricket for Australia. He represents Victoria and Melbourne Stars in Australian domestic cricket.

    Glenn Maxwell’s Early Life

    Glen Maxwell was born in Kew, Victoria in Australia on 14th October, 1988 to Neil Maxwell (father) and Joy Maxwell( mother). He also has an elder brother, Daniel Maxwell. His father was a salesman for an electrical company, while his mother worked in retail. While at primary school, he was forced to bat left-handed since he was too good and the other boys could not bowl him out. From a young age, he started playing junior cricket for the Victorian ‘South Belgrave Cricket Club’. He played with local clubs and school teams before making the state team when he was just 14 years old.

    Maxwell joined the Victoria’s team in July 2009. He was picked for the FDR squad in November. Maxwell played in the 2010 Hong Kong Cricket Sixes tournament and was named Player of the Tournament as Australia became champions for the first time.

    In 2011-12, Maxwell went to England to play club cricket for South Wilts and Hampshire Second XI. He played T20 for Hampshire.

    Glenn Maxwell’s International Career

    Maxwell was picked for the UAE tour of 2012. Maxwell made his ODI debut for Australia against Afghanistan in a one-off One Day International in the United Arab Emirates in 2012. His debut performance was unimpressive both as a batsman and a bowler. Though in his 2nd ODI, playing against Pakistan, he scored 38 off 38 balls, helping rescue Australia from a tricky 5–121 to victory.

    Maxwell made it to the Australia's squad to play in the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka but had a dull performance throughout the tournament. Australia made it to semi-finals but lost against West Indies.

    On 10th  January 2013, he played his first ODI at home against Sri Lanka. On 1st February 2013, he scored 51 off 35 balls as an opener as Australia chased down the target of 71 set by the West Indies in their first ODI of the series.

    Maxwell also made his test debut in 2013 in a match against India at Hyderabad in March.

    Between 2014-2015 he gave some impressive performances in T20I & ODIs. It was during early 2015 that Maxwell broke into the top 10 of the ICC one-day international batting rankings. He was also awarded the Men's T20I Player of the Year at the Allan Border Medal ceremony by the CA in 2015.

    In 2016 Maxwell was not included for the Test and ODI series against Sri Lanka, but was called to the T20I series.

    Between 2017-2019 he was on & off Australia’s squads for different formats. Though in April 2019, he was named in Australia's squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

    On 16 July 2020, Maxwell was named in a 26-man preliminary squad of players to begin training ahead of a possible tour to England following the COVID-19 pandemic. On 14 August 2020, Cricket Australia confirmed that Maxwell was included in the touring party. In the ODI series, Maxwell impressed as a batsman, scoring 186 runs at an average of 62, including an impressive 108 in the last ODI, helping Australia win their first ODI series in England since 2015. He was later named man of the series.

    Glenn Maxwell’s IPL Career

    Maxwell was first signed for Delhi Daredevils in 2012. In 2013’s IPL auction he was picked up by Mumbai Indians. Between 2014-2017 he played for Kings XI V. He was bought by Delhi Daredevils in 2018 before being picked up by Kings XI Punjab in 2020 again. He was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore in a bidding war against Chennai Superkings. He was the highest scorer for his team with 513 runs in 2021. He remains with RCB for 2022 but is set to miss the start of IPL season due to his upcoming nuptials.

    In October 2019 Maxwell announced he would be taking a break from cricket due to mental health issues.  Glenn is engaged to Vinny Raman who is Indo-Australian. They are set to get married in 2022.
