    Andre Russell’s Early Life

    Andre Russel was born to Michael Russell and Sandra Davis on April 29, 1988, in Jamaica. His family faced financial troubles during his childhood. His mother, a teacher, wanted him to pursue higher education but Andre was keen on playing professional cricket.

    Andre Russell’s International Career

    Andre Russell made his international debut in his only Test match until now against Sri Lanka on November 15, 2010. He made his ODI debut the following year against Ireland in Mohali on March 11, 2011, followed by his T20I debut against Pakistan on April 21, 2011.

    He started out as a bowler and had a poor performance up until the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He proved his worth with both the bat and ball during the ODI series against India in 2011. He was awarded the man of the match in the final match of the series after taking four wickets while yielding 35 runs. He became the first player to take four wickets in four successive deliveries in a match against India on September 21, 2013.

    He played a key role in West Indies 2016 ICC World T20 victory, carrying his team to the final by scoring 43 runs off 20 balls against India in the semi-final.

    In 2017, Russell was banned from cricket for one year for an anti-doping violation.

    He was a part of the West Indies squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup but was ruled out halfway through the tournament due to a knee injury. He scored his maiden T20I half-century against Australia on July 9, 2021, knocking 51 runs off 28 balls.

    Andre Russell began his IPL journey in 2012-13 with Delhi Daredevils after being bought for USD0.45 million. In 2014, he was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders and soon became a key part of the batting order due to his ability to bat under pressure in the final overs. He had the second-highest strike rate during the 2018 IPL. He gave an exceptional performance in the 2019 IPL; He scored the third-highest runs in the tournament and was the leading wicket-taker for KKR and was awarded the player of the tournament.
