IPL feature: Records that are still intact after the 2022 season

Let’s take a trip down to a few records that remained untouched even after concluding the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League

Sachin Tendulkar: first Indian cricketer to win an Orange cap in 2010 by scoring 618 runs in a single season Sachin Tendulkar: first Indian cricketer to win an Orange cap in 2010 by scoring 618 runs in a single season

Most runs in a single IPL season for Mumbai Indians – 2010

Mumbai Indians are one of the most successful franchises in the IPL. And when talking about Mumbai Indians, you can’t forget Sachin Tendulkar and his contribution to the team. He was the first Indian cricketer to win an Orange cap in 2010 by scoring 618 runs in a single season. And no one till now from Mumbai Indians has been able to pass his tally of individual scores in the season. Sachin Tendulkar also secures second place.

Centurion for Kolkata Knight Riders – 2008

The first team of IPL to have an individual score a ton is Kolkata Knight Riders. Brendon McCullum smashed a hundred in the first game of IPL, and interestingly, no one from KKR has been able to score a single century since then. Dinesh Karthik reached close, remaining not out at 97 off 50 in IPL 2019; however, he failed to convert it to a ton. They have won the trophy twice, but no player could score a hundred.

Chris Gayle’s 59 sixes in an IPL season– 2012

Chris Gayle has a record of hitting 59 sixes in a single IPL season and is one of the records that are still intact even after a decade. Andre Russell reached close to the stat by hitting 52 sixes in IPL 2019 but fell short eventually.

The same player to take two hat-tricks in the same season – 2009

IPL has witnessed 21 hat-tricks being taken in the tournament. However, it has been only once that the same player has taken two hat tricks in one edition. This record is written in the name of Yuvraj Singh in IPL 2009. First, he took a hat-trick of Uthappa, Kallis, and Boucher against RCB and a few matches later against Deccan Chargers, dismissing McLaren, Mandeep Singh and Harris.

An uncapped overseas player winning the Orange Cap – 2008

Every year we see many uncapped players putting on their best show with bat and ball to grab the limelight and ultimately land the international match for their nation. An uncapped overseas cricketer winning the Orange cap is one of those records which remains untouched even after 15 editions concluded since inception. In the Inaugural edition, Shaun Marsh scripted this achievement by scoring 618 runs in just 11 games. And since then, no other uncapped overseas player has achieved it.

Highest individual score by Chris Gayle- 2013

On 23rd April 2013, Chris Gayle stormed with his bat and hammered the highest individual score in IPL history. He made a half-century in 17 balls, reached a century in the next 11, and scored a personal score of 175 in just 66 balls. The ferocious batter took away the game from the hands of the Pune Warriors in minutes.

    Kohli’s heroics- 2016

In IPL 2016, RCB’s former skipper Virat Kohli hammered a mammoth 973 runs in a single season. To date, nobody has crossed the 900 mark. Jos Buttler secures second place in IPL 2022 by accumulating 863 runs. Though in the initial phase of the tournament, he looked in the form to conquer Kohli’s feat but saw a decline, failing to beat the record.
