The ball bowled by Tim Southee in the first over managed to outsmart Rohit Sharma. The ball went past close from the edge of the bat and was caught well behind the stumps. The on-field umpire gave it not out; however, the third umpire overturned the decision after seeing a spike. What raised controversy was the spikes seen even before the ball came close to the skipper. It disappointed the complete Mumbai Indians dugout and fans.

Former England cricketer Graeme Swann, who was at the commentary box at the dismissal, thought that Rohit had been "hard done by".

"A technical glitch. Spike popped up before the ball reached Rohit's bat. Important for the third umpire to keep the eyes open," tweeted a fan.

    Venkatesh Iyer regaining his form

The IPL 2021 star for Kolkata Knight Riders, Venkatesh Iyer, had been out of form since the beginning of the 15th edition. But the batter was at his best against Mumbai Indians yesterday as he scored 43 off 24 balls taking KKR to 64 at the end of the Playoffs.

"The beginning seemed promising. I was given another chance to speak again – Desh hai, videsh hai, characha-e-Venkatesh hai – because of the manner Venkatesh Iyer batted at the start of the match. He played really well. There was a lot of excitement right up to the start of his inning," Aakash Chopra said.

"I was dropped for a couple of games. Coming back and opening the innings was good. The most important thing is we won. That's what feels good. Irrespective of what you contribute, if the team wins, naturally you feel happy. It's important to contribute to the team, whether I bowl or field or bat, you always want to contribute to the side irrespective of whatever skill you are trying to do,” Venkatesh Iyer said on his performance.

Questions on Jasprit Bumrah's form were put to rest.

Regarded as one of the lethal bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah has not been able to be at his best in this season of IPL. The MI's spearhead has scalp just five wickets in the first ten matches. However, the bowler registered an impressive bowling figure of 5-10 in four overs. The Cricket fraternity couldn't stop hailing praises for the bowler.

Pragyan Ojha tweets, “#Bumrah ke samne ho jate hai ballebaaz gumrah! #class #MIvsKKR #IPL2022 #CRICKETONKOO”

Yuzvendra Chahal tweeted, “Boom Boom Boom Bumrah @Jaspritbumrah93 #IPL2022 #MIvsKKR #firehunmain”
