    Veronika Kudermetova began the match on a solid note and raced to a quick 0-3 lead. The 25-year-old Russian looked keen to maintain her unbeaten record against Ons Jabeur and made it 2-5.

    However, Ons Jabeur held firm and saved multiple match points to force the match into a decider. She began the tiebreak with an excellent backhand angled winner to take a 4-0 lead en route to a decisive first-set tiebreak victory.

    The 28-year-old Tunisian continued with her winning momentum in the second set and made it 5-3 but failed to convert on her first match point opportunity. She did not falter and eventually converted to clinch her maiden victory over Veronika Kudermetova after one hour and 30 minutes of play.

    No. 5 seed Ons Jabeuer served 11 aces, won 70% of the points on the first serve, and broke the serve of Veronika Kudermetova three times from three opportunities.

    In contrast, Veronika Kudermetova served four aces, won 68% of the points on the first serve, and committed five double faults.

    The victory made Ons Jabeur the third African and first North African woman to advance to the quarterfinals at the US Open.

    Ons Jabeur will lock horns with Ajla Tomljanović of Australia in a quarterfinal clash of the US Open on September 6.
