Tennis News: Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA)- Why is the founder Novak Djokovic under fire for selective support?

Recently when Simona Halep suffered a provisional suspension due to doping allegations, the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) supported her and issued a statement saying that they would fight for her rights and would ensure that she has a proper appeal

The statement issued by PTPA was as follows: "The PTPA is committed to ensuring that Simona Halep, and every player, has a fair appeal and complete due process. We will fight for her rights and look to advocate for fairness and transparency for all players."

Association founded by Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil has received significant backlash from tennis fans and players because of their partial support for players.

Some players and fans claim that while the organization was established to make transparency and fairness throughout decision-making in professional tennis, this support for transparency is only extended to Grand Slam champions and no one else.

The organization is officially formed to represent the top 500 singles players and the top 200 doubles players; however, the allegation is that the organization remained silent when a similar provisional ban was suffered by other players who were not grand slam champions.

In response to this statement, Tara Moore, another player who had suffered from a similar ban on the allegation of doping in 2022, wrote, "Their silence tells you everything."

A similar apprehension was experienced by Tara Moore as well as Simona Halep; however, she claims that the organization did not respond, and now they release a statement when it is happening to a former world number one. The multi-grand slam champion is the former world's number one.

This statement was never backed by PTPA, which now wholeheartedly supports the tennis champion, Simona Halep. PTPA's comment on this criticism is still awaited.
