Medvedev is more than 1,000 points clear of the injured Alexander Zverev. After clinching the US Open title almost a year ago, he won his first title.

He zoomed past defending champion Cameron Norrie in the final of the hardcourt tournament in Los Cabos, Mexico. He was on a five-match losing streak in the finals, which included his five-set loss in the Australian Open final against Rafael Nadal.

He couldn't perform in 's-Hertogenbosch and Halle and missed Wimbledon due to the ban imposed on Russian and Belarussian players. Despite his loss, Norrie climbed to 11 with the Pole Hubert Hurkacz ahead in number 10th.

Yoshihito Nishioka and Mikael Ymer also climb the rankings ladder due to solid performances in the US capital.

Nick Kyrgios makes a giant leap

Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner is down two spots after skipping Washington and losing the points he gained last year when he won it. The slide has helped Australian Nick Kyrgios climb 26 places to 37th.

He lifted his seventh tour-level trophy at the Citi Open and dismissed four home favourites at the ATP 500 event, including Frances Tiafoe in a quarter-final nail-biter.

The Australian saved five match points before defeating Ymer and Nishioka to win his first Tour title since 2019.

    World No. 11 Cameron Norrie

Norrie was unable to defend his 2021 crown at the Abierto de Tenis Mifel in Los Cabos. He lost by a narrow margin, and the Briton's run in the championship match propels him to higher in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.

Norrie overcame Chun-Hsin Tseng and Radu Albot on the west coast of Mexico and thrashed second seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semi-finals. However, he lost the title to world number one, Daniil Medvedev, although it didn't stop him from closing in on the top rankings.

    World No. 24 Frances Tiafoe

Tiafoe's quarter-final clash with Kyrgios is one of the most remarkable matches this season. The American lost to Kyrgios on the ATP Tour but did not disappoint his fans.

He performed strongly against Christopher Eubanks and Botic van de Zandschulp which pushed him three spots higher to number 24 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.

    World No. 54 Yoshihito Nishioka

Nishioka landed five difficult wins in five days involving Top 40 opponents. As a result, Nishioka entered his maiden ATP 500 final in Washington.

The Japanese thrashed Jenson Brooksby, Alex de Minaur, Daniel Evans and Andrey Rublev before being outclassed by Kyrgios. His surprising outing saw him jump 42 spots to No. 54 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.
