She won her maiden grand slam just two months after making her WTA Tour debut and without dropping a set en route to the U.S Open trophy making the feat spectacular and rare in tennis history.

2021 Grand Slam was the second Grand Slam of Emma Raducanu’s career after she made her debut as a wildcard at the 2021 Wimbledon. It helped her earn the record of winning a Grand Slam title after the fewest appearances at a Major.

Tennis is an internationally popular but also an individual sport. Therefore, as you see the face of a particular competitor more than players of team sports such as football, hockey and cricket, anyone who shines is immediately thrown into the limelight and instantly recognizable.

Emma Raducanu was born to a Romanian father and a Chinese mother in Toronto, Canada. She was raised in Southeast London and held Canadian and British citizenship.

All these factors, combined with her championship trophy at the U.S Open, propelled her into instant commercial and celebrity success.

The success of Emma Raducanu was deeply interwoven with several connected stories. She gave Great Britain the champion they had been craving for quite some time.

Emma Raducanu had the support of former tennis player turned commentator Tim Henman supported her throughout the tournament as her parents could not attend the event.

Channel 4 obtained sub-licensing from Amazon Prime, which had the sole rights to broadcast U.S Open in the United Kingdom. The championship match was watched by a record 9.2 million viewers.

Some players don’t just dominate in their sport but alter the whole system around them. It happens rarely and brings the potential for rapid growth. But, it also brings high expectations for the player that can be hard to sustain in the long run.

Emma Raducanu advanced to World No. 10 on the WTA rankings earlier this year, proving she is here to stay.

Former Chairman of IMG Media, Michel Masquelier, said, “In 35 years in the industry, I would have to go back to the days of Tiger Woods to think of something similar.”

It is hard to imagine a women’s event without Emma Raducanu now that the 2022 edition of the U.S Open looms closer. She will go onto the hard court at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York to successfully defend her title.
