The Russians employed the same methods used against Jainik Sinner in the quarter-finals. He was spot-on with his defense and service leading to an 85-minute victory.

"It was a great match," shared Daniil Medvedev. "There were a few moments in the match where I should have done better, to go in front earlier and try to build the pressure earlier.

"Then I managed to stay consistent and, in the most important points, managed to raise my level. That was enough today, and I'm really happy with my level."

Grigor Dimitrov secured 21 winners to Daniil Medvedev's 17 but couldn't crack into his defence. Daniil Medvedev raked in 87 percent of points behind his first service to extend his Head2Head series lead to 4-2 against the Bulgarian.

"The serve is probably the most important shot in tennis," said the Russian. Despite his clinical prowess, Danill Medvedev only won a single ATP event in Mexico this season after losing five consecutive final matches.

The former number had lost to Grigor Dimitrov in their last encounter at Indian Wells 2021 but slid into a comfortable win this time. He is moving closer to sealing a spot at the ATP Finals, slated to begin in Turin on November 13.

Daniil Medvedev, currently ranked fifth in the standings, will attempt to recreate his victory at the season-ending event in 2020.

Denis Shapovalov's big hits take him to the final of the Vienna Open

Denis Shapovalov's two-setter against Borna Coric opened as a close contest but ended on a one-sided note. The Canadian bested his Croatian opponent 7-6 6-0 in the semi-finals of the Vienna Open.

Borna Coric was dumbfounded as Denis Shapovalov cornered him with power hits in the second set. Denis Shapovalov, who beat top seeds Stefanos Tsitsipas and Hubert Hurkacz en route, has reached his second tour-level championship match.

He scored 26 winners and converted three of his four break-point opportunities. The Canadian is delighted with his run to the summit clash.

"I'm very happy with my performances this week and today was another amazing match. Obviously, Borna's playing some great tennis, he beat some great players this week, so really happy to win today and really happy with my game," he shared.

Denis Shapovalov won his first two ATP Head2Head matches against Daniil Medvedev but has faced straight-sets defeats in the near past. So he knows what he is up against in Sunday's championship match.

"It's super tough," he said. "I've struggled against him in the last couple of matches that we've played. He's an extremely difficult opponent to play against."

"He bothers a lot of guys, so it's going to be a difficult matchup, [but] I'm confident in myself, I think I'm playing some really good tennis. I'm going to take it to him and battle my heart out," Denis Shapovalov spoke up.
