Both players struggled to take control of the game for a significant period throughout the match. However, Cameron Norrie upped his game at the right moments to clinch the match of fine margins after two hours and 38 minutes of play on the hard courts in Ohio.

Two-time Cincinnati Open champion Andy Murray struggled due to the Cincinnati heat in the last two sets. Cameron Norrie broke in the eighth game of the second set and then in the ninth game of the third set to secure his maiden victory against Andy Murray.

The 26-year-old Brit served seven aces, won 74% of the points on the first serve and broke the serve of Andy Murray three times from six opportunities.

However, Andy Murray had better stats despite losing the match. He served 12 aces, won 82% of the points on the first serve and won two breakpoints.

After the victory, Cameron Norrie said, “I just needed to put a lot of balls in the court. At the start of the match, nothing was really working for me. I was not really being physical. I was not really executing how I liked.”

The Brit added, “Credit to Andy, he came out and was using his slice a lot, coming forward well. He reads the game incredibly, so credit to him and it was not easy towards the end. I managed just to find a way.”

Cameron Norrie will face Ben Shelton of the United States in the third round of the Masters 1000 event on August 18. The 19-year-old American wildcard advanced to the third round after a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 victory against Norwegian sensation Casper Rudd.
