    Ons Jabeur was playing her first match since her shocking first-round defeat to Magda Linette at the French Open. The Tunisian gave a brilliant performance and won the last four games of the opening set to win 6-3. 

    The 27-year-old Ons Jabeur won the first set and raced to a quick 3-0 lead in the second set. She saved all five of the breakpoints she faced throughout the match against her Czech opponent, with three coming 0-40 in the first game of the second set. She fired four aces and won 77% of the points on the first set to secure her victory.

    In a post-match interview, No. 2 seed Ons Jabeur said, "A great start, especially playing a tricky player. I'm pretty good with my game, but there are a few things that I need to improve more and get used to grass. But yeah, overall, I'm enjoying playing here, and hopefully, I can continue to play better.”

    Ons Jabeur will next face Alycia Parks in the second round of the German Open on June 16.

    Aryna Sabalenka beats Veronika Kudermetova in the first round

    Veronika Kudermetova of Russia defeated Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the opening round of the Halle Open at Gerry Weber Stadion to secure a second-round spot.

    Veronika Kudermetova bounced back from the brink of an early exit to defeat the No.3 seed Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian had a 6-2,5-2 lead, but Veronika Kudermetova pulled a reversal to secure her first victory against Aryana Sabalenka. 

    It was Veronika Kudermetova's first victory against a top ten opponent on a grass court. She has now won against top 10 opponents on all three courts in the 2022 season.

    Veronika Kudermetova saved four of six break points she served, won 82% of the points on the first serve and fired four aces to secure her victory after two hours and 11 minutes of play.
