His most recent eruption came in the fourth round of the Miami Open against Jannik Sinner as he lost his head to the Brazilian umpire Carlos Bernardes.

He was fined USD 35000 by the ATP on March 31, 2022, following his verbal spat with the umpire Carlos Bernardes following his straight-set defeat. The 26-year-old has been handed a fine of USD 10000 for two counts of unsportsmanlike conduct, USD 20000 for a verbal abuse charge and USD 5000 for an audible obscenity violation.

Surprisingly, the last match in which Nick Kyrgios lost his cool a month ago was also officiated by Carlos Bernardes. Nick Kyrgios was handed a USD 25000 penalty for racquet and verbal abuse.

At the beginning of the tournament, Nick Kyrgios claimed that he was at peace with himself on and off the court.

At the beginning of the match, Nick Kyrgios was bothered by the difference between the main court and the grandstand at the Hard Rock Stadium. He also complained about the noise from a walkie-talkie during a point. Kyrgios was given a point penalty which gave Jannik Sinner a 6-3 lead in the tie-break. The decision did not sit well with Kyrgios; He slammed his racquet on the umpire’s chair. The Australian subsequently lashed out at the umpire in a fit of rage

The pair then became involved in a row that saw a furious Nick Kyrgios docked a point during a tiebreaker when he said something about Bernardes to a member of his entourage and then a game penalty at the start of the second set.

After his straight-set defeat, Kyrgios said, "The crowd actually hated him (Bernardes) that much they told him to be quiet,"

Kyrgios said, "The ATP won't do anything about him. He will just show up at the next event and everyone just forgets how bad that was."
