Mubadala World Tennis Championship: Stefanos Tsitsipas and Ons Jabeur win the titles in Abu Dhabi

    The world's no.4 Stefanos Tsitsipas secured a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory over defending champion Andrey Rublev of Russia in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship final at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on December 18

    Tsitsipas had advanced to the final after securing fantastic victories over the world's no.3 Casper Ruud and British no.1 Cameron Norrie in the earlier matches.

    The 24-year-old Greek star began the match aggressively and broke the serve of Rublev in the very first game of the clash. He continued with the attacking momentum to win another break point in the fifth game before securing the opening set 6-2.

    Both players were equally matched until 3-3 in the second set. The set went with the service, but Rublev eventually broke Tsitsipas to force the match into a decider.

    Tsitsipas broke his Russian opponent in the opening game and raced to a quick 3-0 lead. He continued with the attacking momentum to clinch the third set 6-2 to claim his maiden Mubadala World Tennis Championship title.

    After the victory, Tsitsipas said, “I would just like to thank everyone for coming out to support us, especially knowing there was a World Cup final happening a bit later. We appreciate the support.”

    Rublev added, “It was a great tournament and I’m always happy to be here. It’s been a pleasure to be back in Abu Dhabi playing in front of you guys.”

    In the other Mubadala World Tennis Championship clash, Casper Ruud secured a third-spot finish after beating Carlos Alcaraz Garfia 6-1, 6-4.

    Ons Jabeur becomes the first woman to win consecutive Mubadala World Tennis Championship titles

    Ons Jabeur of Tunisia became the first woman to win two Mubadala World Tennis Championship titles in a row after beating 2021 US Open Titleist and British no.1 Emma Raducanu with a 5-7 6-3 10-8 win.

    The 28-year-old Tunisian woman won her maiden Mubadala World Tennis Championship title after beating Belinda Bencic in the final last year.

    Jabeur said, “I tried to remember to have a bit more fun on the court because that’s when I played my best and I did that.”
