John McEnroe-led Team World went into the final day of the Laver Cup 2022 with a 4-8 deficit. However, Team World turned the tide against three-time champions by claiming nine points to win their maiden Laver Cup title.

Frances Tiafoe saved four match points in the second set tiebreak and brought his best game table at the crucial moments.

The 24-year-old American put forth an excellent show in front of the energetic crowd at the O2 Arena in London to secure the victory after one hour and 48 minutes of play.

In an on-court interview, Frances Tiafoe said, “It is an unbelievable feeling. Our captain Jonny Mac was tired of losing, saying we needed to get it done this year on his fifth try. We all did it together, it wasn’t just me. I showed a lot of heart to get this done. This is big. We are going to celebrate big tonight.”

The victory of Frances Tiafoe sent his teammates into a frenzy of celebration as they ran up to the court to embrace the young American. John McEnroe did not hold back and began dancing on the table as soon as the music started to celebrate his first victory at the Laver Cup.

Earlier in the day, Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada pulled off an impressive straight-set victory over the Serbian legend Novak Djokovic. The 22 year old Canadian secured a 6-3, 7-6(3) win over the Serb after one hour and 35 minutes of an intense clash to bring Team World to victory.

In the men’s doubles clash, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jack Sock edged past the British-Italian pairing of Andy Murray and Matteo Berrettini 2-6, 6-3, and 10-8 to claim three points for Team World.
