World No. 1 Iga Swiatek completely dominated her American opponent in straight sets on Court Philippe-Chatrier to lift her second Roland Garros title. She defeated Coco Gauff after just one hour and eight minutes of play to win her 35th consecutive match.

Coco Gauff struggled to keep up with the pace of Iga Swiatek and was broken several times early into the game. The Pole completely dominated Coco Gauff with perfect use of her backhand and forehand.

Coco Gauff fell short of her bid to become the youngest woman to win a women’s singles title at a Grand Slam since Maria Sharapova in 2004. Coco Gauff played with nervousness in the first game and was broken by Iga Swiatek. The Pole rushed to a 3-0 and a double break lead in just 16 minutes and won the extensive third game with a powerful backhand strike before eventually winning the first set 6-1.

Iga Swiatek had a rough start to the second, giving away her serve initially and making four unfocused errors. She quickly regained her composure while Coco Gauff kept on making mistakes. The 23-year-old Pole then won five straight games to seal her victory. Coco Gauff made three double-faults and 23 unfocused errors during the match.

The victory made Iga Swiatek the tenth woman in the Open Era to win multiple Roland Garros titles. She also improved her win-loss record against Coco Gauff to 3-0. Iga Swiatek performed exceptionally well throughout the tournament and advanced in every round except the fourth with straight-set victories. She dropped just one set in the fourth-round match against Zheng Qinwen of China in the whole event.

After the match, Iga Swiatek said, “I am pretty happy every piece has finally come together. Two years ago, winning this title was something amazing. Honestly, I would not expect it ever, but I feel like I worked hard and did everything to get here this time. Even though it was pretty tough, the pressure was big. I have extra motivation every time I come here, so I love to be back.
