Andrey Rublev battles past Taylor Fritz to book place in Monte Carlo final
Andrey Rublev came from a set down against Taylor Fritz to reach the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters final.
Andrey Rublev.The Australian Open quarter-finalist had led the opening set three times before falling behind and having to battle back to win 5-7 6-1 6-3.
Rublev, the fifth seed, was not put off by a near-two hour rain delay to come back onto the clay and secure the win.
"It was really tough, especially against Taylor," Rublev told atptour.com.
"I started really well and then I was up a break and then he broke me back, but I knew I would have chances. In the end we had a great match and I am pleased with the win."
Rublev will play Holger Rune in Sunday's final after the 19-year-old Dane also recovered from losing the opening set to beat Jannik Sinner 1-6 7-5 7-5.
The teenager will now be aiming to win his second ATP Masters 1000 title after beating Novak Djokovic in Paris last year.
"It was quite unbelievable," said Rune.
"Jannik started firing, hitting a lot of winners and he has been in good form the past few months. I had to dig deep and find solutions, which I did well. It was fun to play like this."
