Analyzing Who Could Go On to Claim the Miami Open 2022 Title

All the tennis action has been on US soil over this past month. The focus is currently on the east side at the Miami Open. We have reached the quarterfinal stage and there are many interesting players who are giving their best to lift the trophy.

    Alexander Zverev Alexander Zverev

At the moment, in the quarterfinal there are mouth-watering matches lined up ahead. Former World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev will be facing Poland’s Huber Hurkacz.

In the second quarterfinal, Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz will be facing Serbian tennis player Miomir Kecmanovic. Towards the bottom half, Italian talent Jannik Sinner will be up against Francisco Cerundolo. In the last match, the Olympic Gold medalist Alexander Zverev will be facing Norwegian star Casper Ruud. These matches have all the makings of going the distance.

Speaking of players individually, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev will be considered the favourites as they have managed to beat the top players regularly as compared to the others in Miami.

Reflecting on his next opponent, the German added, “I think he [Ruud] is playing great tennis. The way he beat Cameron Norrie [in the fourth round] on a hard court is quite impressive, and I think when he's playing like that he can beat anybody.”

“He's somebody that really does not miss much. He's somebody that tries to play aggressive with his forehand as well. [I have to] take away his strength in a way and we'll see how it goes tomorrow.”

The Russian player and the German have been playing some good tennis this week and will surely face tough challenges as the tournament is reaching the business end. However, they will only face each other in the final.

On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been playing some of their best tennis this week. The Italian talent played a composed match against Australian player Nick Kyrgios and secured a straight sets win.

Carlos Alcaraz fought back wonderfully and showed some breath-taking tennis against French Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas yesterday. If all these players win their matches, there could be a semi-final clash between Daniil Medvedev versus Alcaraz and in the other half, Jannik Sinner against Alexander Zverev.

However, one cannot rule out the other players like Ruud, Miomir Kecmanovic, Huber Hurkacz and Francisco Cerundolo. The Pole is the defending champion and will ride on the confidence of his first ATP 1000 title win.

Nonetheless, it will be an amazing next few days at the Miami Open and the matches will get more intense as the rounds go by. Although, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev will be firm favorites to go on and claim yet another title.
