However, they were soon under pressure by some determined hitting from Litton Das.

The opener played vigour in the powerplay, scoring 59 in 27 deliveries as the Tigers raced to 66 without loss after seven overs.

It placed them 17 ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) calculations as the players headed for the pavilion and the covers came out.

Rain and Duckworth-Lewis-Stern came to India’s help.

The revised target of 151 for Bangladesh only served to dilute their hard-fought advantage, asking them to make another 85 in just nine overs.

And the effects of the greasy pitch were about to worsen things. Litton Das, who had looked in complete control before the break, slipped, turning for a second run off the very first ball back and needed treatment on his wrist.

A similar thing happened when play resumed, but he lost his footing this time, and the results were more dramatic, as Rahul expertly ran him out for 60.

Bangladesh never recovered from the loss of its star player, Litton Das. Najmul Hossain Shanto tried to keep the team afloat, but he was next. Arshdeep Singh then took out Shakib-al-Hasan and Atif Hossain.

With 20 runs needed off the final over, Arshdeep Singh closed out the game. The final margin was closer than anticipated, as a six and a four from Nurul Hasan ensured it went to the last ball.

Arshdeep Singh well-directed yorker, which finally allowed Indian victory.
