Super Overs have been hitting New Zealand long before 2019. They played their first-ever Super Overs in the 2012 World T20 and lost to Sri Lanka.

Four days later, they found themselves in the same situation, but this time it was even more painful as they were in a strong position where both sides had to win.

They had restricted West Indies to 139 despite Chris Gayle's early push. They brought the equation down to 27 off four overs in the chase. Sunil Narine picked up two wickets for just five runs in his next two overs, and it took some big hitting from Ross Taylor, who finished with 62, to take the game to the Super Over.

Taylor batted strongly once more, but the West Indies managed to score 18 runs and knock New Zealand out of the tournament.

They won the Super Over against New Zealand to keep their tournament hopes alive.

They swept Australia away with the bat in the semi-finals, scoring a mammoth 205/6. In return, the Australians were bowled out for just 131.

The final was a tight affair, with the West Indies having to defend 137 to win. Thanks to an inspired bowling performance, led by Sunil Narine's 3/9, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 101, and the West Indies won the T20 World Cup for the first time.
