And over all these years, the Melbourne Cricket Ground has seen a significant share of unforgettable moments. So let's see some of those moments witnessed at this ground, which have been etched forever in the hearts of cricketing fans.

Bhagwat Chandrasekhar's 12-wicket haul gave India its first win in Australia

In 1977-78 when the Indian national cricket team arrived on Australian shores with the hope to win the series, the Australian team was playing with their third-best layer of players owing to Kerry Packer's parallel World Cricket Series. Despite that, the hosts were at a lead of 2-0.

With the next test match at MCG, India struggled at 0/2 before Mohinder Amarnath and Gundappa Vishwanath rebuilt the innings to finish at 256. In response, Australia reached 122/2, but Bhagwat Chandrashekhar weaved his web to wrap hosts at 213.

In the second innings, Sunil Gavaskar's 118 helped India set a target of 387 when the duo of Bishan Singh Bedi and Bhagwat Chandrashekhar ran through the Aussies as they took 4 and 6 wickets each in the inning. Triumphed India to a 222-run win as Australia's first India Test win.

Kapil Dev achieves a miracle at Melbourne Cricket Ground with a spell of 5/28 in 1981

Losing the series in 1977-78 despite playing against the third-layer Australian side, India returned to play in Australia, but this time against a full-fledged Australian solid side. India had already lost the opening Test at Sydney and held on to draw at Adelaide.

India's batting line-up faltered against the Aussies, with the third test coming in at MCG. Only Gundappa Vishwanath stood tall and scored a gallant 114, which helped India reach the first innings total of 237. In response, Australia created a lead of 182, notching 324.

The match reached a stage when the hosts needed 143 runs to win on the final day. With India's bowling attack hampered by Kapil Dev, Dilip Doshi, and Shivlal Yadav unfit, Kapil Dev remained determined to bowl despite knee pain.

And in the least expecting times, taking pain-killing injections, he ran through the Australian line-up to win the match by 59 runs for India.

Rohit Sharma-Shikhar Dhawan partnership to register highest T20I total at Melbourne Cricket Ground

India's tour to Australia in 2015-16 for the T20I series recorded a 27-run win against the hosts in the second match at MCG.

The match witnessed two records made by team India- Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan's highest partnership record and team total at the MCG in T20Is.

The duo of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan forged a 97-run stand for the opening wicket as Rohit Sharma fetched 60 off 47 and Shikhar Dhawan 42 off 32.

What followed this was Virat Kohli's scintillating unbeaten 33-ball 59-run knock to help India post their highest team total of 183 at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Nathan Lyon, James Faulkner, and John Hastings became primary victims of India's hard-hitting economy, getting over 11.

In response to India's 184/3, Australia could score 157/8 in 20 overs.
