With a target of 147, Ireland made a dream start with Paul Stirling and captain Andrew Balbirnie. Neither batsman showed any nerves as they were determined to make good use of the powerplay.

Stirling reached his fifty off 32 balls. He remained unbeaten on 65 off 46 balls. The experienced right-hander, who was not at his best, showed his class by hitting two sixes and six fours in his immaculate innings.
