T20 World Cup 2022: Australia beat Afghanistan by four runs

On Friday, Australia kept their semifinal hopes alive at the T20 World Cup by defeating Afghanistan in their final Super 12 game by four runs

Glenn Maxwell: Man of the match Glenn Maxwell: Man of the match

Australia's top-order batsmen Glenn Maxwell (54 not out off 32 balls) and Mitchell Marsh (45 off 30 balls) did the majority of the scoring as they posted a total of 168 for eight wickets.

In reply, Afghanistan's team managed to score 164 for seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs with Rashid Khan smashing an unbeaten score of 48 off 23 balls.

Afghanistan may not have won any matches in the Super 12s of the T20 World Cup, but they put on a great show tonight that demonstrated their value in the world of cricket.

If either Gurbaz or Gulbadin had gone on to make a bigger score, they may have pulled ahead and won the game. But then, if that was the case, Rashid Khan's wild 48 from 23 balls wouldn't have happened. Sometimes, things happen for a reason.

    Player of the Match

Glenn Maxwell was the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance at the crease and in the field. He was the most important batter of the night and his brilliant run out was decisive in the match.

Group one Scenario: Group one has been decided!
