The league is being seen as one of the opportunities that will bring the game the international recognition that it has always deserved. With many European and English players playing in the league, it is likely to make the game internationally renowned. Rakesh Kumar, one of the most incredible Kabaddi players of India, has also shown great appreciation for the league and its relevance in the international Kabaddi scene.

“Yes, the game is huge in India. But it is also an undeniable fact that it has been mostly confined in India till now. International leagues like the British Kabaddi League will give this game the international recognition it needs and a much bigger audience all over the world,” said Rakesh on being asked about the new league.

As far as the teams playing in the league are concerned, two teams that have shown a brilliant performance in the first week are the Birmingham Bulls and the Manchester Raiders.

In only the opening weekend of the British Kabaddi League, Birmingham Bulls have already won 3 games. This Saturday, they secured a win over Leicester Warriors with a shocking score of 80-15. They added another win at the league to their accomplishments by defeating the Edinburgh Eagles by 53-16. Their third win of the opening season was against Glasgow Unicorns last Sunday. This was comparatively a close match and ended with a score of 54-47.

Manchester Raiders have been on a winning streak too. They defeated London Lions by 52-31 and also went on to defeat Glasgow Unicorns this Saturday. They have a few more games lined up in the next few days. It remains to be seen whether Birmingham Bulls and Manchester Raiders continue to play with the same zeal or are defeated by other clubs who are only looking for one good opportunity to climb their way to the top of the table.

Rakesh, who is an ambassador of the BKL, will be inspiring and mentoring the players in Manchester for the second leg. While the game is huge in India and some other neighbouring countries, seeing the game gaining popularity in the west has made all Indian players proud and hopeful that the game will soon achieve great heights.
