Thilo Kehrer has joined West Ham United from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported fee of £10.1 million

Kehrer, a versatile defender with 20 Germany caps, becomes West Ham's sixth summer signing.

25-year-old Kehrer has played 128 times for PSG since joining for £33 million from Schalke.

The Premier League club has added Nayef Aguerd, Alphonse Areola, Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet, and Flynn Downes to David Moyes' first-team squad.

Kehrer, who has a two-year contract extension option, appeared 34 times for the French champions last season.

He won three Ligue 1 championships and two French Cups and started their Champions League final loss to Bayern Munich in 2020.

Injury to a new signing Nayef Aguerd, as well as experienced duo Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna, have forced Moyes to use Ben Johnson in central defence alongside Kurt Zouma this season.

After winger Maxwel Cornet, striker Gianluca Scamacca, defender Nayef Aguerd, midfielder Flynn Downes, and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, Kehrer is West Ham's sixth summer signing.

West Ham is also in talks with Chelsea about Emerson Palmieri, the Italian full-back.

Kehrer can make an early debut

Billy McKinlay, West Ham's assistant manager, has proposed a new signing. Thilo Kehrer could play a role in Thursday's Europa Conference League play-off against Viborg.

After leaving Paris Saint-Germain, the German international signed a four-year contract in east London on Wednesday.

David Moyes, suspended for the first leg at the London Stadium, is still dealing with injury concerns, with Craig Dawson suffering from a quad strain and Nayef Aguerd undergoing ankle surgery.

Ben Johnson has had to deputise in central defence for the club's first two Premier League games of the season, and the short turnaround in games may allow Kehrer to make his debut sooner.

The versatility of the 25-year-old across the backline is part of his appeal, but due to the dire situation in central areas, he may make his first appearance there, having already trained with the squad.

West Ham United talks with Jakub Kiwior and Hans Vanaken after signing Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain.

To help stabilise the ranks in the midst of an injury crisis, negotiations with Spezia are ongoing for another centre-back, Polish international Jakub Kiwior.

The 22-year-old, who has previously been linked with a move to Serie A champions AC Milan, made his international debut for his country against the Netherlands earlier this year in the UEFA Nations League, and sources have confirmed to 90min that the Hammers are working on a deal to bring him to the Premier League.

West Ham is also still interested in Club Brugge midfielder Hans Vanaken, despite having a €10 million bid rejected on Tuesday.

The Hammers will resume talks with the Belgian giants to see if an agreement can be reached with the attacking midfielder, who has scored double-digit goals in all competitions for 11 seasons.
