Newcastle United drew first blood but only for Tottenham Hotspur to thrash them later.

Fabian Schar gave Newcastle United the lead in the first half. Schar was brilliant with his free kick in the 39th minute, and he broke the deadlock between both sides with a well-struck shot, which flew past Hugo Lloris and into the nets.

However, what awaited Newcastle United after the short-lived lead was a thrashing from the Harry Kane led side. Newcastle remained better for the first 43 minutes, but couldn’t keep up the momentum moving forward.

What began then was a trampling of Eddie Howe’s side, with Harry Kane leading the charge of Tottenham Hotspur with an attacking masterclass.

Ben Davies scored the second goal after heading a lead up from Son. Then Matt Doherty added the second goal with another header in the second-half, directly into the nets.

Son Heung-min then added to the momentum with a brilliant kick, after a clean pass from England skipper Harry Kane in the 54th minute. Emerson Royal was the fourth one to score from Tottenham Hotspur.

Steven Bergwijn was the last to score to total a humongous four goal lead over Newcastle United.

Antonio Conte was particularly grateful of his side’s performance. He reflected the same at the match presser and also ventured into the difficult times that Tottenham Hotspur was going through back in November.

"I like to be honest and clear in every moment with my players. I arrived in November and it was difficult to set a target for the season. I found it difficult in many aspects," Tottenham Hotspur supremo Antonio Conte stated after the match.

"The work we are doing is paying off. It is important for me as I see the commitment of my players every day. A good result is important for the trust in the work we are doing," the boss continued.

With this victory, Tottenham Hotspur have risen to the top four in the table, much to the worry of their rivals, Arsenal.

Pressure mounts on Arsenal after Tottenham Hotspur’s win

Arsenal have some tough games ahead, which includes a North London derby. Hence, it is up to Arsenal to lose the fourth spot.

Arsenal which currently have two games left, could reclaim their top four place if they earn one point against Crystal Palace on Monday and the yet-to-be-rearranged delayed derby between the two rivals could prove to be a crucial one.
