Thomas Tuchel rejects Bayern Munich squad rotation ahead of DFB Pokal quarter-final clash

Thomas Tuchel, the new FC Bayern Munich coach, has rejected the idea of making major squad rotations for the upcoming DFB Pokal quarter-final showdown against SC Freiburg on Monday.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Tuchel emphasized the importance of having a regular squad to achieve the team's objectives.

"We need a regular squad in order to master our objectives. We are in the process of finding ourselves and need a sense of achievement in order to develop further," said Tuchel.

"I want the players to value the confidence given by selection. Naturally, there are exceptions if the medical department recommends it."

Tuchel's second match in charge of the German giants comes just three days after their 4-2 victory against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga clash. The coach confirmed that Jamal Musiala was still having issues with a thigh contusion and would likely only be available off the bench. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who was absent from squad training on Monday, had merely sustained a minor knock and should be available for the game.

Meanwhile, SC Freiburg counterpart Christian Streich confirmed that regular goalkeeper Mark Flekken would start in goal for the cup match against Bayern. Streich revealed that the decision was based on the overall constellation of the team and not because they didn't trust backup Noah Atubolu to do it.

Freiburg have had their fair share of injury problems, with defender Philipp Lienhart remaining unavailable due to tight problems. The unavailability of Lukas Kubler has led to recently promoted youngster Kenneth Schmidt getting the start on the back-line against Hertha over the weekend. Schmidt himself was also injured and replaced by Jonathan Schmid, who made a crucial error that allowed Hertha to score an equalizer. Streich revealed that Kubler might be fit in time to face Bayern.

Freiburg and Bayern will meet once again in the league next Saturday, with Bayern winning their previous encounter 5-0 in October.
