Premier League: Thomas Tuchel's lacklustre side registered the second PL loss

Chelsea lost 2-1 at Southampton in their fifth game in the current edition of the Premier League on Tuesday. Romeo Lavia and Adam Armstrong scored to take the lead after a 23rd-minute strike from Raheem Sterling

After the recent transfer from Etihad, the former Manchester City player has three goals to his credit. The Blues have already lost two matches after an injured N'Golo Kante has been absent from the central lineup.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is also hoping for attacking right back Reece James' swift recovery as he missed the trip to St. Mary's stadium because of illness.

However, Chelsea could have conceded more goals had it not been for Marc Cucurella and Thiago Silva's terrific saves in the second half. Chelsea had a good start to the match as Mason Mount and Kai Havertz made solid exchanges en route to Sterling's first goal.

Southampton responded as Lavia scored from a corner, followed by Armstrong, who delivered the next one from Perraud's cross. After half-time, Thiago Silva blocked a goal-line hit with his foot.

Southampton has won three out of their last 19 Premier League games against Chelsea. The Blues scored at least once in the 18 PL away games against the Saints. However, they experienced two consecutive away PL defeats for the first time since December 2020.

Seagulls miss the chance to go top after Dunk's bizarre own-goal

Brighton lost their first Premier League match this season to newly-promoted Fulham as the former ended their nine-match unbeaten top-flight run.

The Seagulls were challenged by Serbian forward Mitrovic, who scored his 100th goal on target in the league before Dunk flung the possession into his net, giving Fulham the lead.

The visitors responded as Alexis Mac Allister scored a penalty because Bobby De Cordova-Reid tackled Pervis Estupinan in the box. Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Mitrovic missed their chances before Mitrovic scored in the 48th minute.

Andreas Pereira's corner went to Kebano, who threw a cross into the box where the Serbian forward received it and sent it home. Pereira sent a low ball before Dunk threw it beyond his keeper at the 55th-minute mark.

Referee Thomas Bramall, who made his Premier League debut, was ushered to the VAR monitor to inspect a penalty check to Brighton. De Cordova Reid blocked Estupinan in the box, and a lengthy review allowed the hometeam to fight back.

Mac Allister scored the first and only goal for Brighton. Sanchez reacted to a Pereira corner by sending it to Kebano, who almost scored Fulham's third.

Pascal Gross got another chance later, but Tim Ream mitigated potential risk from the German before his ball could touch the net from close-range.
