Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool's start to the season has been underwhelming by their standards. But they have shown indications of improvement in recent weeks.

Wins over Rangers (7-1) and Manchester City (1-0) in the Champions League will have boosted their confidence. And it will be intriguing to see if the home side can build on that in the coming weeks.

Despite the victory, the Reds are still 14 points behind early leaders Arsenal, and Klopp knows every game is crucial if his team has a shot at winning the title.

Liverpool is ninth in the Premier League after their win over Manchester City on Sunday. They'll be trying to move closer to the top four with a strong performance against West Ham United on Wednesday.

But the Hammers are in good form, with four wins and a tie in their previous five outings.

West Ham, on the other hand, has shown improvement and will travel to the north with a perfect record after five games.

Last time out, David Moyes' Hammers drew 1-1 away at Southampton, so they'll need to get back some of their players to get the famous result that would give them hope for brighter times ahead.

While they are 12th in the rankings, West Ham is undefeated in their last three Premier League games (two wins and a tie). Whether or not they can pull off an upset during the week at Anfield remains to be seen.

Head-to-head stats, Liverpool has won 79 games while West Ham has 29 wins to their name. In contrast, 37 games have been drawn.

    Key stats:

Liverpool has won their last five home matches against West Ham in all competitions

West Ham has won in all competitions just once in 56 visits to Liverpool.

There have been under 2.5 goals scored in eight of West Ham's last 10 PL games.

Mo Salah has scored nine times against West Ham in just ten games.

    Liverpool predicted lineup

Diogo Jota, a key contributor for Liverpool, was carried out on a stretcher in the last seconds of their match against City with a calf injury that will prevent him from playing in the World Cup.

At this point, the 25-year-old may have to rush to be well before Portugal's World Cup opener next month.

To replace the injured Luis Diaz, who won't play again until after the New Year because of knee trouble, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah's left winger Darwin Nunez could get the nod.

Although Trent Alexander-Arnold may be able to return to the starting lineup, both Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip are doubtful starters because of the timing of the match. Among those missing are Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Arthur Melo, and Luis Diaz.

Klopp, the manager, will be waiting anxiously for the FA to rule on his red card from the weekend, which will likely result in a ban from coaching.

Probable lineup: Alisson, Salah, Firmino, Nunez, Gomez, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago

    West Ham United predicted lineup

For West Ham, Kurt Zouma's return is contingent upon him getting over a cold. Zouma and Craig Dawson, who was injured against Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday, had to be replaced by Ben Johnson and Thilo Kehrer. Still, they should be back soon to provide much-needed experience at the centre of the away team's defence.

Probable lineup: Fabianski, Paqueta, Emerson, Antonio, Kehrer, Dawson, Zouma, Cresswell, Soucek, Rice, Bowen
