When it mattered the most, Mohamed Salah delivered, scoring the only goal in Liverpool's 1-0 victory over Manchester City at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.

Salah's 76th-minute goal ended City's undefeated streak at 14 games. The shot came shortly after Salah had a one-on-one with City goalkeeper Ederson, but the attacker kept his cool to secure a victory for Jurgen Klopp's side.

As a result, Pep Guardiola and City have dropped to fourth place in the Premier League, four points behind champions Arsenal F.C. Fans were angry because they thought Phil Foden had given City the lead in the second half, but VAR overturned the goal.

Foden's goal was finally disallowed, but not for the fault Liverpool had argued for; instead, Anthony Taylor disallowed the plan for an earlier foul by Haaland on Fabinho.

The action picked up in the second half, and it wasn't done yet. The earlier disallowed Phil Foden's goal due to Erling Haaland's foul on Fabinho infuriated Pep Guardiola.

As the game continued for most of the day, City's manager was perplexed as to why Haaland was called for the shirt tug and given a yellow card.

With Erling Haaland's remarkable goal-scoring streak finally ending, Mohamed Salah prevailed in the battle of the strikers at Anfield by scoring the game-winning goal in the second half of Liverpool's 1-0 triumph over Manchester City. Haaland had found the back of the net in his previous ten outings across all competitions.

In the 76th minute of a tense match which ended with Jurgen Klopp's expulsion by referee Anthony Taylor, Salah, fresh from scoring a hat trick in a record-setting time of six minutes against Rangers, raced clear, overcame Joao Cancelo's mistake, and beat the reigning champions' goalkeeper Ederson.

A win secured by Salah's goal kept Klopp's squad in the hunt for the Premier League title, despite being 10 points behind City and 14 behind league-leading Arsenal.

Additionally, City's unbeaten start to the season ends with this loss, making it impossible for Pep Guardiola's squad to emulate Arsenal's 2004 Invincibles by going the entire season without losing.

Liverpool has had a rough start to the league season, with only two wins before this fixture, the poorest start during Jurgen Klopp's tenure. However, a win over reigning champion City would be a huge morale booster for the club.

Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool's victory & Diogo Jota's injury

The Liverpool boss was left impressed with Salah's strike and praised him in the post-match presser, "Yeah, Mo played an exceptional game. Absolutely outstanding. Yes, obviously he was one of two strikers in the centre together with Bobby. Great, an absolutely top performance. The goal was world-class."

On Jota's injury, Klopp told reporters, "Diogo, I wish I wouldn't have to talk about it. I saw it on the side of the screen; I was the first one who sees it. When I saw he went down, and there were not a lot of contacts, you can see a little bit that somebody kicked his foot, and maybe the muscle got overstretched, 96 minutes, that's not good for the muscle."
