Premier League: Graham Potter says he looked a 'fool' after Chelsea was decimated 4-1 by his former club

Graham Potter's return to Brighton was painful, as Chelsea lost their first loss under their new manager at the Amex Stadium.

The Blues trailed 2-0 after 14 minutes and 3-0 at halftime as the Seagulls wreaked havoc on the south coast.

After the break, Kai Havertz scored for Chelsea, but the Blues could not score again before Pascal Gross increased the score to 4-1 late in the game.

Mount was subpar as Chelsea was rag-dolled in the first half and again in the second as they chased a way back into the match, whereas Raheem Sterling has been struggling of late and is now eight games without a goal for the Blues.

Whereas Roberto De Zerbi made his winning debut in the English Premier League as Brighton defeated Chelsea 4-1 at the American Express Community Stadium, where De Zerbi scored twice.

There was cautious optimism surrounding the hiring of the Italian strategist, who previously managed Unione Sportiva Sassuolo Calcio and FC Shakhtar Donetsk, as Graham Potter's replacement on the south coast of England.

However, he needed help in the Premier League because his first schedule in England was filled with games against solid competition.

Meanwhile, all eyes were on the former Brighton coach Graham Potter, who openly acknowledged his flaws.

Firstly, while speaking about his switch, Potter said, "I didn't have any expectations, I have nothing to say sorry for, I have nothing to apologise for. I did a good job. You can see the team is a good team. I took over when they were fourth from bottom in the Premier League, probably third-worst team."

"There's a lot of money been raised through player sales and there's a lot of good players on the pitch. I hope for their sake, the next manager does as good a job and that's brilliant for them."

Then, talking about Chelsea and his decision to use Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic as wing-backs, he said, "The responsibility for those two wasn't to defend against their wing-backs, but I understand that whenever you do something and it doesn't work, you look a bit of a fool. That is how it is. I have to accept that, deal with that, do better, and I'll learn. That's the process."

After beating Chelsea for the first time since 1933, Brighton moved up to seventh place in the league, three points behind fifth-placed Potter's men. This was De Zerbi's first victory in England.

The Blues will play Newcastle United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City this season.
