Katia defended the player's recent performances in the face of criticism from Portuguese fans and the media.

She posted a lengthy comment on social media in response to the Portuguese media's plea for him to sit out of Tuesday's Nations League match against Spain.

The Selecao overcame the Czech Republic but fell to Spain, 1-0. After the second game, Ronaldo's sister was enraged by the criticism aimed at her brother in his native country.

Aveiro, wrote on an Instagram story, "But the current times don't surprise me at all. The Portuguese spit on the plate they eat [from], it has always been that way."

"It is necessary to give a hand to those who have always given theirs to Portugal. But the Portuguese [fans] can be sick, petty, soulless, stupid ... and forever ungrateful."

As the five-time Ballon d'Or winner approaches his 38th birthday, this could very well be the weakest period of Ronaldo's career in terms of his on-field performance.

Aveiro has acknowledged that Ronaldo is experiencing a difficult phase in his career and has blamed his fans for failing to assist him while he is struggling.

Erik ten Hag, the new manager of Manchester United, has dropped him after he started only three games this season, with only one victory.

It appears improbable that he will return to the starting lineup of a squad currently performing better without him, especially given his desire to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Although he recently declared that he also wants to play in Euro 2024, his place in the Portugal team for the World Cup is now in doubt.

This is believed to be Ronaldo's final World Cup, and he aims to end his career on a high note in 2022. However, his poor performance has led some to question if he should still be a sure starter.

Cristiano Ronaldo's mother wants him to move to Sporting

Cristiano Ronaldo's mother has predicted that her son and Cristianinho, her 12-year-old grandson, will end up paying for her favourite team, Sporting Lisbon.

Maria Dolores Aveiro stated that it would be a "dream come true" to play with the out-of-favour Manchester United striker's former team. A Portuguese magazine quoted her saying, "Cristiano has to come back here. If it were up to me, he'd be back already."

The 67-year-old Madeira-based grandmother insisted in an interview with Nova Gente that Manchester United youngster Cristianinho was an inevitable future Sporting signing, "He's already said, 'Dad, when we go to live in Lisbon I want to play for Sporting. Seeing the two of them playing together at the club would be my dream."

Maria Dolores Aveiro, a supporter of Sporting Lisbon, has made no secret of her desire for her 37-year-old son to return to the club he left as a youth to become a star at Old Trafford during his first stint with Manchester United.

Even though his two-year contract does not expire until the end of the season, Cristiano will remain at Old Trafford until at least January after his failed attempts to depart and secure Champions League football for this season.

When Manchester United plays against Manchester City this Saturday, the Portugal legend will have a chance to alter the narrative.
