Premier League: Chelsea wins third Premier League game in a row, and Manchester City is on the rise

Chelsea displayed a fantastic game on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Wolves 3-0 at Stamford Bridge. The first half was a slow affair filled with half-chances, and the Wolves lacked in defence

However, in the stoppage time of the first half, the home side took the lead as Mason Mount's cross touched Kai Havertz's head, and the ball flew from a high angle before touching the net.

The Blues created more chances, and Mount registered his second assist, earning Christian Pulisic his first goal of the season. Wolves showed impatience as the minutes progressed, but Adama Traore's physical prowess was threatening for the Blues.

When it comes to chances, there was less output from his side, and Chelsea pressed on to close the game. Chelsea manager Graham Potter sent Mateo Kovacic in the 66th minute, and Reece James was deployed for Pulisic in the 72nd.

Substitute Armando Broja then added a third goal to the tally, and a comeback seemed impossible for the Wolves after that. Broja, who joined the club as an eight-year-old, scored his first senior goal for Chelsea.

Chelsea's style of play decreased the chances of the opposition, and the Blues were outstanding in their movements during counter-attacks that could have turned into goals.

The most striking aspect of the game was Chelsea's staggering starting lineup that excluded the likes of Raheem Sterling, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, and Wesley Fofana.

It allowed players with less game time to prove just how much they were capable of. With an attacking mindset, Chelsea dominated most of the game without feeling threatened or pressured.

Moreover, Diogo Costa, who recently joined the Wolves after a prolonged break from football, was welcomed back at Stamford Bridge with a hearty round of applause.

Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Mateo Kovacic were on the bench, and the Blues were also without the recovering N'Golo Kante and the injured Wesley Fofana.

Asked how he can keep such a deep and talented squad happy, Potter replied: "My experience of pro footballers, whatever level, is they want to play football; so you have to respect that," said Potter.

"But at the same time, part of the deal coming to that club like this is a lot of competition.

"You have to fight, but you must help the team, be ready to play your role.

"All you can do is be honest, be clear and be ready to admit that you're not always right but that we're doing it with good intentions.

"We must have a strong group, a strong collective. It's a credit to the players because there's a good group here; I can't complain.

"I don't think we can succeed with just 11 players; I don't think it's right to play 11 players until they fall and get injured.

Manchester City thrashed Southampton 4-0 and moved to the top of the rankings

Manchester City climbed to the top of the Premier League table after a brilliant 4-0 win over a helpless Southampton. Erling Haaland was expected to contribute to the victory, although he couldn't score a hat trick this time.

Guardiola stated after his side's victory that Haaland is an "incredible weapon", and he recognised that Foden is "playing really good":

"The result is good, we played quite good. We struggled to break their high pressing. Last season we suffered a lot against them but today we were much better," Guardiola told reporters.

Haaland squandered a series of good chances before landing his 15th goal of the Premier League season. Pep Guardiola jokingly remarked that he was disappointed not to see him net three goals.

"He helped us again; he keeps the ball and fights. I think Erling played really good today," he later added. Joao Cancelo darted towards the penalty area in the first half to strike the opening goal, followed by Phil Foden, who scored another.

Riyad Mahrez was the third man to score in the second half before Haaland's goal arrived. Although Manchester City is now at the top again, Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is disheartened by their fourth consecutive loss.

Despite the attention given to Haaland, Phil Foden served as the key initiator of the team's victory. He assisted Cancelo with the first goal, besides scoring the second.

The 22-year-old forward was benched against FC Copenhagen midweek along with Kevin De Bruyne. Pep Guardiola also introduced three changes after the match against Manchester United in the derby.

Ruben Dias replaced an injured Kyle Walker, Rodri was deployed in place of Ilkay Gundogan, and Riyad Mahrez filled Jack Grealish's position.

It remains to be seen whether the Citizens retain their position at the top of the table.
