Pep Guardiola unconcerned over all-English Champions League tie

Despite struggling against English sides in the Champions League recently, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is not concerned about the prospect of drawing one.

The Citizens drew 0-0 with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday evening, meaning they went through to the quarterfinals of the Champions League with a 5-0 aggregate win following a dominant first leg performance.

They could now face an English side, with the restrictions preventing two sides from the same nation from being drawn against each other now being lifted.

City lost to Chelsea in last season’s Champions League final, while both Liverpool and Tottenham have dumped them out of the competition in the recent past too.

However, Guardiola is not concerned and says there will be no extra pressure should they draw an English team on Friday week.

Speaking after the match, he said, "I would say no. It is difficult for us but for them too.

"We are in the last eight best teams in Europe and we will prepare well, and next Friday we are going to see the draw and we are going to prepare.

"It is an honour to be there, some important teams are already out. We will see next week what happens."

Chelsea and Manchester United will both be looking to qualify for the last-eight of the Champions League next week when they play their second leg matches against Lille and Atletico Madrid respectively.

Chelsea won their first leg 2-0 while United take a 1-1 draw back to Old Trafford.

Liverpool have already qualified for the next stage of the competition with a 2-1 aggregate win over Inter Milan, despite losing 1-0 in their second leg on Tuesday evening.

This means that four of the teams in the last-eight draw could be English, making an all-English tie likely.
