On Sunday, they resurfaced from a 2-0 down to defeat Aston Villa 3-2 with three goals. Pep Guardiola's side needed a win as they headed into the last day of the campaign to defend their English domestic title successfully. They managed to brush aside Liverpool's strenuous efforts to win the league, thanks to Ilkay Gundogan's brace alongside Rodrigo, who was also on target. City finally won the league by a point, with Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal trailing behind.

The City now has a record of six league titles in 11 seasons. Some would compare their electrifying come back to their first title-winning match, where Sergio Aguero scored a 93rd-minute goal to curb Manchester United's bid to win the title. The game didn't start favouring the champions as they went a goal down at home against Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa as Matty Cash converted. The visitors then doubled the score after 69 minutes through Phillipe Coutinho.

How City made a surprising last-minute comeback

The players scored three goals in quick succession, leading the team to their fourth title in five years. Gundogan delivered the first one in the 76th minute. Two minutes later, midfielder Rodri made another hit that touched the back of the net. Gundogan went again at the 81st-minute mark to take a lead that cemented their title victory. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola notched the 10th league title of his coaching career in just 13 seasons.

Liverpool's dream of hitting a quadruple down in flames

Elsewhere, Jurgen Klopp's men made a similar comeback after being a goal down to beat Wolves 3-1 at Anfield, but City's efforts annihilated Liverpool's bid for an unprecedented quadruple. A psyched crowd assembled at the crossbar at the goal where City netted their goals as the title confirmed Manchester City's sixth title in 11 years. Meanwhile, Chelsea defeated Watford 2-1 in their last league game. Although the opponent was targetting a draw, Ross Barkley dropped a header right before full-time to clinch a win for his team. Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Leeds United won their respective finishing matches while Manchester United lost 0-1 to Crystal Palace.
