Italian high-end luxury fashion house Gucci is set to do a seven-figure endorsement deal with Manchester city’s star baller Jack Grealish, according to an article in The Athletic.

This is an ‘unprecedented’ development as Gucci commonly signs movie stars and musicians and not sportspeople. This development is in line with Gucci’s recent activities towards engaging with wider popular culture and the Gen Z market as shown by its association with Francis Bourgeois for an advertising campaign.

Jack Grealish became the most expensive English footballer last summer after the record £100 million deal which saw him moving from his boyhood club Aston Villa to Man City.  The city likely paid such a huge amount not only for the player’s skill set on the field but also given his charms and popularity off the pitch.

The 26-year-old midfielder’s popularity is steadily growing since his transfer last year and his euro performance. Though not a regular in Pep Guardiola’s team, he has earned quite a fan base with his unique style - on the field with his skill and off the field with his fashion choices like his trademark short socks. This bold and carefree dressing sense along with his bubbly and charming personality are a few of the main reasons for his nationwide appeal.

He is also frequently photographed wearing various Gucci attire including a pink £800 hoodie recently. The star player already has handsome endorsement deals with companies like Nike & Electronic Arts (EA). Though his contract with Nike is ending soon it's rumored that Nike will offer him a sweeter deal with other brands like Adidas also hinting at their interest in the baller.

This deal will open new gates in the world of fashion and retail for the star midfielder who has his clothing line with boohooMAN. On the other hand, it will be a new chapter for Gucci as well in what appears to be a very profitable deal for both parties.

Jack Grealish has been on the pitch 31 times this season with 4 goals and 3 assists. He featured in a 2-0 win at Burnley on Saturday which put Manchester City at the top of the table ahead of their title rivals Liverpool. He also came off the bench in their victory over Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the quarter-final of the Champions League. He is expected to play in the big match against rival Liverpool on Sunday.
