The Italian international is now David Moyes' fourth first-team acquisition of the summer transfer window. Hammers fans will be hoping he can start the new campaign with an immediate effect.

According to reports, Scamacca, 23, moved for a reported £30.5 million after flying to London on Monday night for a medical.

The transaction is rumoured to include up to £5 million in further add-ons, and the Italian club will keep a 10% sell-on fee.

On his transfer, Scamacca said, "I am really excited to join West Ham United… I've waited a long time for this moment — it's been a dream to play in the Premier League."

"I feel like West Ham United is the perfect team for me. They showed they really wanted me and when I spoke to the manager there was an instant understanding," Scamacca continued. "I can't wait to play and show the supporters what I can do in the West Ham United shirt — I hope we will love each other."

Scamacca, who stands 6 feet 5 inches tall and will represent West Ham United in the No. 7 jersey, scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A games last season. Additionally, he played for Italy for the first time against England at Molineux.

After Jesse Lingard decided to join Nottingham Forest rather than return to east London, the search for attacking reinforcements grew more urgent for David Moyes.

"We've been looking to add more strength to our attacking options for a while, so we're delighted to have got Gianluca in," Moyes said on Scamacca's induction. "He comes well recommended – and we're looking forward to working with him.

"He's a young centre-forward with a really bright future ahead of him."

    Everything we know about Scamacca

Scamacca joined Lazio's youth programme in 2009 and played for them for three years before enrolling in Roma's academy.

Scamacca, a graduate of the Roma system, joined PSV in 2015 and advanced through their development teams before signing with Sassuolo in 2017.

Scamacca played a year with the club's reserve team following graduation from PSV's development academy before joining Sassuolo in 2017.

He was subsequently loaned to Cremonese, PEC Zwolle, Ascoli, and Genoa before returning to Sassuolo in the summer of 2021, where he significantly affected the team by scoring 16 goals in 35 Serie A games.

Scamacca has played seven times for Italy's national team since being called up in September 2021; he hasn't yet scored a goal for the Azzurri.

According to reports, PSG and Sassuolo were in advanced negotiations over a deal for Scamacca when West Ham United stepped in with a counteroffer.

The Italian striker chose to test himself in the Premier League rather than join France's star-studded PSG club. He promptly agreed to personal terms with the Hammers before undergoing a physical.

Nayef Aguerd, a centre-back, and Flynn Downes, a young midfielder, have already joined West Ham United. Alphonse Areola, a goalie, has also been hired by the club permanently.

They acquired permanent contracts for Areola and Swansea's Downes and paid £30 million to recruit Nayef Aguerd from Rennes.

On August 7, Moyes' team plays Manchester City to open the new campaign.
