However, Manchester United believe the Portuguese star will stay at Old Trafford for the start of the new Premier League season.

Ronaldo's agent met with Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly

With Chelsea still yet to sign a single player this summer, the onus will be on their new co-owner to change that, and he is already working on it behind the scenes.

According to reports, Boehly met with super-agent Jorge Mendes last week in Portugal, whose clients include Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo's situation and the possibility of him joining Chelsea this summer are said to have been discussed.

The 37-year-old Portugal international had a year left on the two-year contract when he returned to Manchester United for a second stint last summer after 12 years in Spain and Italy.

Ronaldo is known to have a solid attachment to Manchester United and has no issues with their new manager, Erik ten Hag.

Despite his undeniable affection for the club, the former Real Madrid and Juventus forward is said to be concerned about Manchester United's lack of transfer activity this summer.

Manchester United is yet to complete a deal to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and fellow midfielder Christian Eriksen, a free agent after his contract with Brentford, expires.

Ronaldo is eager for Manchester United to match his ambition by strengthening the squad.

Domestic rivals, most notably Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal, have already strengthened their respective starting lineups this transfer window.

On the other hand, Sporting Director has something to say about Ronaldo.

Is Cristiano Ronaldo going to join Sporting CP?

After spending the better two decades cementing a legacy as one of the game's most incredible talents, speculation is resurfacing about a possible return to where it all began.

Questions have been raised about how long Ronaldo will stay at Old Trafford, with Manchester United facing a difficult 2021-22 season, but he still has a year left on his contract.

That makes it difficult for Sporting to consider doing a deal at this point, but when asked about interest in the 37-year-old icon, club director Hugo Viana told Sky Sports: "I think not now that will be possible, but you never know."

"I think he can decide where to go, but we never know the future."

"I don't want to talk a lot about that because I think when we talk about Cristiano, it is quite different. I think he has one year more contract so whatever he decides, let's see."

Despite this, Manchester United is unwilling to lose Ronaldo and has said he will not leave the club.

Upon being unveiled as the new manager of Manchester United, Ten Hag immediately announced that Ronaldo would be staying with the club.

When asked if Ronaldo is a fit for his project, Ten Hag told the media: "Of course."

Later, when asked what Ronaldo would contribute to the club, Ten Hag exclaimed: "Goals!"

When asked about leadership questions regarding Ronaldo, he said: "I talk first with Ronaldo before I talk with you."
