    The Premier League's clubs collectively lost $1.2 billion in the 2020–21 campaign, an improvement over the outcomes of the previous campaign.

    The "Big Six" clubs of the Premier League—Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham—were at the forefront of the significant losses. The top-flight teams lost $816 million in total, accounting for almost 63 per cent of the league's overall losses. Losses for the 2019–20 season amounted to $1.6 billion, the highest amount since 2009.

    In 2020–21, the 20 Premier League clubs' combined revenue totalled $5.8 billion. About $4 billion of total income came from agreements involving media rights. 

    • It reported $829 million in potential revenue vs $36 million in match-day earnings.

    • Attendance restrictions for fans impacted revenue on match days.

    Chelsea, a team that will try to improve under new management, was the Premier League team with the most losses for the 2020–21 season. While finishing fourth in the Premier League standings, the Blues experienced a $244 million deficit for the year.

    In May, a group led by Todd Boehly, owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers, and Sparks, acquired Chelsea for $5.2 billion, the highest price ever paid for a professional sports franchise.

    Additionally, it was the first time American investors owned more than half of the Premier League's clubs.

    The Premier League has requested that its teams voluntarily impose a moratorium on new gambling sponsorship arrangements on team apparel. Ten teams had sponsors from the gaming industry during the 2020–21 season.
