Football News: Gabriel Jesus shines for Arsenal against Everton in the pre-season

Gabriel Jesus, who recently joined Arsenal, scored his third goal in his second game for his new team as Mikel Arteta's team defeated Everton in a convincing pre-season victory

Arsenal defeated Everton 2-0 to keep up their impressive pre-season streak. Against Frank Lampard's team, Arteta named an aggressive top three of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Gabriel Martinelli.

The former two of those three scored in the opening period, and the Gunners' £45 million acquisition of Jesus continues to appear like a wise move.

Turner, who had only arrived this summer, would have felt at home as thousands of Americans crowded into the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. Everton would periodically rush forward but failed to challenge Turner.

After a frantic first half, the second half was a bit of a stalemate for both teams. However, both sides are more concerned with minutes in the bank.

Mikel Arteta says Gabriel Jesus created 'chaos'

After Gabriel Jesus continued his impressive pre-season form in Saturday's 2-0 victory over Everton, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised him as a striker who "creates mayhem."

Jesus scored the opening goal and set up the second for Bukayo Saka as the Gunners defeated the Charm City Match in Baltimore in his debut start for the team after joining for £45 million from Manchester City.

Jesus not only scored in his debut last week against Nurnberg, but he also set the tone for an easy win with an impressive 45-minute outburst before being replaced at halftime as both teams made numerous adjustments.

The Brazilian has already started recouping Arsenal's £45 million ($53 million) investment in his potential, and Arteta is happy with the "leadership skills" he is contributing.

After the game, Arteta was all praise for Arsenal's second-goal scorer, Bukayo Saka, who the 25-year-old also helped set up.

"He creates chaos, he creates uncertainty, and he's always on your shoulder," Arteta told the media. "He's always there to nick the ball off you. He's always in front of the goal."

"He's a real threat, and this is what we need. The moment we give the ball away, he is straight away active and putting pressure and getting his team behind him."

"He has a lot of leadership skills, I can see straight away what he's doing with the boys and he's the type of guy that we want."

    Gabriel Jesus celebrates in style

Before going to his famous goal celebration and 'calling' someone, many thought that Nketiah was watching from the bench. Instead, Gabriel Jesus put his finger to his lips to calm the Toffees fans behind the goal after emphatically scoring against Everton.

Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah might be squabbling over who gets to lead the line. However, this choice would indicate that Arteta is moving through his plans to deploy Martinelli as a football through the centre. London is aware that he has played centre-forward in the past while practising.

However, the Brazilian has been utilized in a completely new position as a left-wing back–for the second consecutive pre-season game.

He hasn't appeared out of place thus far. He performed well there against FC Nurnberg, and after switching to that position against Everton in the second half, he nearly scored, but James Tarkowski stopped him.

It may be understandable why Arteta decided to test Martinelli at left wing-back once more, given that Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiysau were unavailable and Nuno Tavares had only played one half.

On July 21, three days before playing Chelsea in the Florida Cup final, Arsenal will play Orlando City as part of their pre-season tour of the United States.

Before looking ahead to their Premier League debut against Crystal Palace on August 5, the Gunners have a friendly match against Sevilla to attend.
