Few players, let alone goalkeepers, can drill a perfect 70-yard pass into feet, but Pickford did, and Gray took advantage by controlling the ball and slipping a low finish into the corner past Dean Henderson.

Everton drew with Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park after winger Demarai Gray scored a late equaliser. It was the Toffees' first point of the new Premier League season after a shaky start.

After a scoreless first half, Salomon Rondon almost put the home side ahead early in the second with a fast turn and shot, but the ball sailed just past the left-hand post.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin still injured after two defeats, Lampard offered 32-year-old attacker Salomon Rondon his first Premier League start since January.

Morgan Gibbs-White made his debut for Forest a day after joining Wolverhampton Wanderers on a five-year agreement. He led a lively attack down the left that almost culminated in a goal for Neco Williams.

Though both teams produced plenty of chances in an open and free-flowing game, they lacked the killer instinct in front of the goal, and the game appeared to be heading to a draw until Brennan Johnson came up with a game-winning goal in the 81st minute.

The 21-year-old, who scored 16 goals in the Championship last season, was the first to react, heading in a rebound for his first goal of the season and giving his team their second win in a row.

Gray, on the other hand, had different plans, latching on to a long pass from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford before quickly putting the ball into the net in the 88th minute to bring the teams back level.

For several reasons, the equaliser was welcomed with open arms. Gray became the first Everton player to score a goal this season, with the only other triumph coming via an own plan by Lucas Digne.

Pickford will also feel vindicated for his role in Forest's 81-minute goal, which Brennan Johnson converted. The England goalkeeper played well generally but didn't gain enough space when parrying a Ryan Yates shot, allowing Johnson to sidefoot the rebound.

Everton searched for a winner, and they nearly found it when midfielder Alex Iwobi set sail with a stoppage-time shot, but his effort flew over the bar and landed on the roof of the net, resulting in a point for both teams.
