Darwin Nunez recently completed the transfer from Benfica to Liverpool at a club record cost of a whopping Euro 85 million for a six-year contract. He has been criticised after disappointing performances against Manchester United and Crystal Palace.

Fans of rival clubs have called Liverpool's most expensive signing a waste of money and a flop. However, Darwin Nunez proved the naysayers wrong after he was launched onto the field by Jürgen Klopp in the 57th minute.

The 23-year-old Uruguayan striker immediately got an opportunity to score, but Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson stopped his attempt.

Darwin Nunez pushed the Manchester City defenders with his movements on the field. He finally got a breakthrough in the ending moments of the match as he slotted the ball into the net with an impressive diving header to secure a 3-1 victory for Liverpool.

Manager of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp, said, "I'm not worried at all; the general judgement is absolutely nil interest to us. It will be like this, and we all know it."

He added, "It is kind of a game or a joke for some people to pick out some situations where a player's not doing well. That's only a game from [fans of] other clubs, which is normal. Our fans probably do the same with signings of Manchester United. We cannot take this seriously."

English defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is confident in the ability of Darwin Nunez to score goals. He thinks the Uruguayan is itching to score and has the movement and flow to make it happen.

    Darwin Nunez VS Erling Haaland

Darwin Nunez had a debut to remember. In contrast, Erling Haaland had a debut to not just forget but to barry deep underground as the Norwegian had a slow start and spent most of the second half struggling in the centre circle. He was ineffective and made futile attempts to fit in the playstyle of Manchester City.

Erling Haaland failed to make any dribbles or interceptions, won no headers, made just 16 touches and completed seven passes in the most unremarkable performance by any Manchester City player in 90 minutes spent on the field.

In contrast, Darwin Nunez looked laser-focused on the goal and moved in sync with the rest of the squad, proving Liverpool had considered choosing someone who fits well into their attacking style. He took two shots on the targets and managed to score in his debut match for Liverpool.
