Everton are expected to make an official bid for Viktor Gyokeres 'this week', but Sporting are in pole position, according to reports.

A report in Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claims Everton are set to table a bid for Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres this week.

The Swedish international scored 21 goals and laid on 12 assists in the Championship last season.

Unsurprisingly, the striker has been linked to numerous clubs already, with Wolves, West Ham, Leeds, Everton and clubs abroad mentioned.

The report in O Jogo says, "The striker has ruled out staying at Coventry… and is waiting for approaches from top Premier League clubs."

The report goes on to make a loose link to Everton, stating that Sean Dyche has indicated he needs a new striker.

We know from reliable sources that Everton have monitored Brandon Vazquez, an International with 48 goal involvements playing in MLS.

Another Portuguese outlet, A Bola, claims that despite the interest from Everton, Gyokeres would prefer a move to Sporting Lisbon.

Sporting's head coach, Ruben Amorim, has admitted to the press that he has personally spoken to the Coventry City forward about the move.

They claim an initial bid of around £12.9 million has been made, but Coventry will hold out for much more.

Speaking to the Swedish press about his rumoured £20 million price tag, Gyokeres said: "I only have one year left on the contract, so considering that, it's quite a lot."

Everton fans will hope that rumours about a lack of transfer funds are wide of the mark.
